Feb :Black Cat

Here is my black cat for February.

He is from a Just Cross Stitch Halloween Ornament Issue ( I think it's called Hiss, I left off the word.) I will try to add the details when I find the issue again. It was stitched on a piece of mystery fabric that I dunked in a coffee/tea bath after stitching. The fabric was too light but I didn't want to take the time to look for something else. I wound up having to redo his eyes, since that thread took up the dye as well and turned out way to dark. Now he has the look I had in mind.

Which Witch finish

Hi everyone,  This is my first post to the Halloween Stitching.  I finished a set of 4 small Halloween pieces from the JCS Magazine.   It was titled Which Witch.  I will come back later to show you the FFO piece (Fully Finished Piece) when I take it out of the bin of shame.

Noni's Black Cat

It's almost Halloween.... another year has rolled on by - is it just me or do the years seem to be going even more quickly than ever before??

Anyway... I am just in time for my October offering / posting....

The cute/scary black cat is part of the Halloween Portraits from Blue Ribbon Designs.  This series was published in the Just Cross Stitch Halloween 2015 issue.  I have now stitched 3 of them and plan to do a couple more at some point.  Still undecided what I will do with them... but I think they will make cute little pin cushions :o)

Stitching Witch - July 2016

Witches' Accessories.... what a great theme idea! So many designs to choose from - hats, broomsticks, cauldrons to say the least!  I did however spot a design that I just had to stitch the instance I saw it in the Just Cross Stitch magazine!

The design is called "Stitching Witch" and is designed by Maria Warmke from The Stitcherhood.  How perfect is this design... hat, cauldron - tick... and then needle and scissors!!  It was published in the October 2014 issue of the Just Cross Stitch magazine.

I stitched this on a piece of fabric from Colour Cascades Fabric - no name as it was in a cardmakers pack - just love the colours!  The thread I used was "Nevermore" from Jodyri Designs.  The design called for all black thread but I decided to try something different for a change!!

I have wanted to stitch this spider ever since I first laid eyes on him!  When I saw that the theme for May was spiders, I pulled out my old magazines to find the chart.  I finally found it in the Just Cross Stitch September/October 2013 issue (Volume 31 Issue 5).

Noni's Blue Ribbon Ghost!

At the risk of sounding boring... I continued on with my Blue Ribbon Designs stitching and stitched another small (insert quick) design from the Halloween Portraits" by Blue Ribbon Designs.  This one took me the better part of Tuesday afternoon/evening last week when I was at home feeling sick and miserable!

He is a funny looking ghost... but a ghost he is!  The bottom on the ghost is confusing me as he looks like he has way too many feet... or is that supposed to be a flowing ghostly robe??

The "Halloween Portraits" designs were published in the Just Cross Stitch Halloween 2015 magazine.

Noni's Blue Ribbon Pumpkin

I found the perfect quick stitch for this month... "Halloween Portraits" by Blue Ribbon Designs.

This little pumpkin is one of 6 or 7 designs included in the "Halloween Portraits" set.  Besides the cute pumpkin there is also a ghost, witch, black cat, crow, owl... plus a couple more that I can't remember... I will have plenty more to stitch over the coming months for my Halloween themes!  The designs were published in the Just Cross Stitch Halloween 2015 magazine.

Once I have stitched a couple more on this piece of fabric I will turn them into little pillow ornies... but the final finish may be some time off!! :o)

Looking forward to seeing all those lovely pumpkins pop up over the next couple of weeks!

Halloween Month is Here!

Here's my stitch for October.  This is also an ornament I've been wanting to stitch for a while, and if you look closely, there's actually a wee ghost hanging off the hat!  It's from the JCS Halloween Collection book.  Stitched on 28ct flash linen, DMC, purchased trim and beads.

And here's my Halloween tree.  I'm going to have to get a revolving stand to enjoy all the ornaments!

Spooky Words

Here's my spooky eye chart for September.  I've been wanting to stitch this design for a while.  It was in one of the JCS Halloween issues, but I can't remember which one.  Stitched on 30ct WDW pumpkin linen, custom cording, and a little witch flying underneath!

shake, rattle and roll aren't usually spooky words ... but once you apply them to a skeleton, they take on a new meaning and there you have it!

The pattern is Shake, Rattle 'n Roll by Pam Lewis and Susan Rohm of Praiseworthy Stitches.  Featured in Just Cross Stitch magazine in the October 2015 issue.

I stitched this pattern on a wee piece of 32 ct. tea stained fabric of unknown origin.  2over2 for the skeleton & border, and 1over1 for the text - using both magnifying glasses and a hand held magnifying lens (where did I put my good eyes?)

I'm not sure how I will finish it, just yet ... but stay tuned for further developments.

Apparently I misread the list.....DUH........

Instead of stitching a haunted house for July, I skipped ahead to August.  Maybe there's still time for me to stitch the ornament for July and finish in time too.

Jo's June Ornament

Free choice.  I always put a couple of free choice options in the themes so people can stitch their favourite thing without having to fit it in to a specific category.  But does anyone else find this one really difficult to make the decision?

I was just overwhelmed with choices!  So to narrow it down, I selected one magazine and said "choose a design from that".  The magazine was the Just Cross Stitch Hallowe'en preview issue from 2011.  The designer is Blue Ribbon Designs and the design is Boo Mansion:

and scrapbooked with its companion piece Owls by Midnight:

Of course, as soon as I started stitching this one I realised that July's theme is Haunted Houses.  So now I have to find a different Haunted House for that one!

Rita's April Tombstone

This is from one of the JCS ornament issues, designer Paulette Stewart.  There was an editing mistake and, although the picture was in the issue, the graph was not so it was a freebie for a while on the JCS website.  It called for 40 count fabric but I stitched it on 32.  A little on the big side for an ornament but I think it will still work.

I've been wanting to stitch this one ever since I saw it so this blog was a good excuse to stitch it.

I stitched the ghostie with glow-in-the-dark floss, and I added some gold and silver star sequins and beads. 

I also stitched this little freebie tombstone on 14 ct plastic canvas, added a ribbon loop and backed it with felt.

Cheryl's March Owl Ornament

I pulled this little owl from the "Owl Candle Band" in the JCS October 2014 issue.  Designed by Elizabeth Spurlock.  I stitched him on 14 ct plastic canvas, added a felt backing and a braided loop for hanging.
