Kaye's July and August ornies....

Here is my current Hallowe'en stitching.  I am just scraping in for my July Hallowe'en ornie for the Haunted House theme but I am a day early for my August Hallowe'en ornie for the theme Black Cats, although my cats are not quite black but there is a ghost cat! lol!

July: Haunted House from the Side Panel of  "Halloween Days sewing basket" by Simona Bussiglieri of Mani Di Donna on page 89 from JCS Halloween Ornament Magazine 2015.

August: Halloween Cats - freebie from Kreinik, which you can find here.

I am very pleased with my finishing on both of these cushions.  I think that maybe I am finally getting the hang of creating a nice finish.

TraderVic keeps asking me why there is so much stuff in my sewing room but, of course it is full of my stash so that I can always put my hand on the perfect fabbie or ribbons or buttons or beads for finishing.  For my haunted house I found some gorgeous reproduction fabric in different shades of lilac and the perfect ribbon - do you like the pretty little purple bow underneath the haunted house?

Furio approves....

I love the ghost kitty and do you see how Furio has snuck onto the top of the right column and Milo has crept underneath the ghost cat?

I finished it with little black cats on a ribbon.

And the bottom and backing fabric is black kitties on black!

For both of these designs I used overdyed 28 count fabric from my stash, plus various DMC and specialty threads which I chose myself.

I hope that you like them.  I love them both - I am very pleased with my Halloween stitching this month!

hugs,

Noni's July Haunted House

Yeah!  I did it... I managed to finish my July "Haunted House" in July!!

My Haunted House is from The Trilogy's Halloween Sneak Peek.

Now I should let you into a secret.... I did start the Halloween Sneak Peek design earlier in the year with the plan that some of the little "sneak peek" designs would fit in perfectly to the monthly stitching themes and then I wouldn't have to think/plan too far ahead!

Sneak Peek Halloween - The Trilogy
With a little bit of luck I will get the Sneak Peek Black Cat finished in time for an August posting.... and my September theme is almost done as well.... oh, does that mean I might be getting organised! Don't believe it!! :o)

Til til next time.... happy Halloween stitching
Hugs xx

Jo's July Ornament

Back in June I chose a lovely design for the Free Choice - Boo Mansion - only to realise that it could have been saved for July - Haunted Houses!  Oh well, it gave me the chance to choose another house design for this month.  Once again I turned to my trusty back issues of JCS and found a great little design in the 2013 Hallowe'en Special by Jamie Kile of Knotted Tree NeedleArt:

A Little Hallowe'en House

I choose a nice muddy green for the fabric.  It's a 32count linen called Dark Reed Green from Willow Fabrics.  I used the recommended DMC conversion with a couple of minor changes.  I blended two shades of purple for the house rather than use a variegated thread.

I don't enjoy stitching plain borders and this had a double row of plain stitches.  So I changed them to extra large Xs stitched over four threads instead of two.  Then I changed the corner blocks to twelve-legged eyelets instead of plain Xs.  They look a little web-ish to me.

July's haunted house

My haunted house is from Hand blessings.  I changed the thread colors and fabric from those suggested.

Cheryl's July Haunted House Ornament

WooooooOOOOOOoooooo!

I think my house might have been spookier had I used grey or purple instead of gold.
(I was going for an autumn leaf palette.)

Anyhoo ... I found this free pattern here:

Rita's Haunted House for July 2015

OK.  I feel better now...July AND Aug. finished.

This is a freebie from the subrosa blog.  I used fabric and floss I had on hand.  (DMC 844 and one of DMC's color variation threads...can't remember number and too lazy to get up to look.  lol!)

I omitted the letters at the top.

I look forward to seeing what others come with for the haunted house theme.

Happy stitching!

Rita's August Ornament

Apparently I misread the list.....DUH........

Instead of stitching a haunted house for July, I skipped ahead to August.  Maybe there's still time for me to stitch the ornament for July and finish in time too.

Anyway.....this is Majestic Cat by Homespun Elegance.  It appears in JCS September/Oct 2013 issue.

What's This?

What's this? What's this?
There's colour everywhere
What's this?
There's white things in the air

What's this?
I can't believe my eyes
I must be dreaming
Wake up, Jack, this isn't fair

What's this?
What's this? What's this?
There's something very wrong
What's this?

These people singing songs
What's this?
The streets are lined with
Little creatures laughing
Everybody seems so happy
Have I possibly gone daffy?

What is this? What's this?
There's children throwing snowballs
Instead of throwing heads
They're busy building toys

And absolutely no one's dead
There's frost on every window
Oh, I can't believe my eyes
And in my bones I feel the warmth
That's coming from inside

Oh, look, what's this?
They're hanging mistletoe, they kiss
Why that looks so unique? Inspired
They're gathering around to hear a story
Roasting chestnuts on a fire

What's this? What's this?
In here they've got a little tree, how queer
And who would ever think
And why?
They're covering it with tiny little things
They've got electric lights on strings
And there's a smile on everyone
So, now, correct me if I'm wrong
This looks like fun
This looks like fun
Oh, could it be I got my wish?

What's this?
Oh my, what now? The children are asleep
But look, there's nothing underneath
No ghouls, no witches here to scream and scare them
Or ensnare them, only little cozy things
Secure inside their dreamland

What's this?
The monsters are all missing
And the nightmares can't be found
And in their place there seems to be
Good feeling all around

Instead of screams, I swear
I can hear music in the air
The smell of cakes and pies
Are absolutely everywhere

The sights, the sounds
They're everywhere and all around
I've never felt so good before
This empty place inside of me is filling up
I simply cannot get enough
I want it, oh, I want it

Oh, I want it for my own
I've got to know, I've got to know
What is this place that I have found?
What is this?

Witchy Transportaion

My Other Car Is a Broom by Lizzie*Kate and another rendition of Witch Moon are my two ornaments for June. I think I bought the recommended fabric for this LK Snippet, and while I love the color it's not one of my favorite fabrics. The fabric is very soft I wish it had more body, I will be adding some interfacing when I am ready for the finishing.

Suggested fabric and fibers

By Cheryl Smith

This is my alternate version of Cheryl's Witch Moon. This time I stitched the Witch and left fabric background. The fabric is a purple over dye from my stash. This picture is washed out and doesn't show the true color. Hopefully when I get it finished, I will be able to get a better picture.

Rita's June Ornament

Trick or Treat by Plum Pudding Needleart in the 2013 JCS Halloween issue.  It's stitched on 32 count Wichelet lambswool linen (over 2) using DMC floss.

Sorry that the picture's a little blurry.

It took me a while to decide what to stitch this month so I got a late start.  (I've been stitching a couple of patriotic-themed pieces lately too.)
